This is the ancient Temple Of Maa Bhagwati ChinnaMasta Devi. Pandit mai das, a devoted brahmin from patiala riyasat, was a famous devotee Of Maa ChinnaMasta. One day, She Gave him Her Darshan. The place was called chhaproh, but since Maa Appeared And Relieved pandit mai das Of all his worries, the place became popular as chintpurni — meaning “She Who Removes all anxieties.”

His descendants still live in chintpurni and perform prayers and puja at The Chintpurni Temple to this day. They are the official priests of The Temple.

According to shakta tradition, lord vishnu severed The Sacred Body Of Maa Sati Into 51 Pieces to stop lord shiva’s tandava. The Head (Mastaka) Of Maa Sati Fell Here, Making this one of the most important Of The 51 Shakti Peethas.
